What illuminates your life?

Art. Be it film, theater, painting, sculpture, photography, or the written word, I always get a thrill seeing how others see the world, especially if their story takes place well away from this home we call Earth.

Steven Mackay

After a 15-year career in journalism that took him through much of the southeast United States at daily newspapers and business publications, Steven joined the Virginia Tech College of Engineering’s News and External Relations team in fall 2008. Since then he has written about the Blind Driver Challenge, soccer-paying robots, a machine that helps people “learn” to fall, and Virginia Tech’s leadership in tracking and studying concussions and head injuries among football players and other athletes. He has worked with CNN, Discovery Channel, Nova, Popular Science, National Public Radio, the New York Times, Popular Mechanics, Forbes, the Washington Post, and Wired magazine in highlighting the research of Virginia Tech faculty and students. During his spare time, Steven volunteers for the local Lyric Theater in Blacksburg, Virginia, and enjoys watching films and blogging about his reactions.
