What illuminates your life?

The chance to experience new things illuminates my life. A big reason I want to join the military is the ability to travel the world, to serve my country overseas and to immerse myself in new and fascinating cultures. The chance to indulge in the unknown, in the thrill of discovery, is not something that should be passed up. Too often are we trapped in our cycles of life. We need to escape, to see the world anew. Experiencing new things does not simply illuminate my life, it defines it.

I come from a military family. I have lived around the world, including a total of five years in Japan. There I learned to ski and scuba dive, activities that I still enjoy doing regularly. I have also played nearly ever sport known to man, though I especially enjoy football. I came to Virginia Tech on a four year Navy scholarship and upon completion of my degree here I will commission as an officer. While the Corps is quite stringent on the extracurricular activities available to freshmen, it is my pleasure to work as a member of the steering committee and I look forward to seeing the continued growth of TEDx here at Virginia Tech.
